Over the past three years the scholars have been involved in the Scholars’ Congress through the generous support of the Department of Science and Technology. This event became a venue for scholars to overcome their academic stressors and also be renewed in their sense of responsibility towards their studies and also to their country.

The event kicked off with an opening prayer and National Anthem conducted by the University of Mindanao and University of the Philippines Mindanao Scholars, respectively. The opening remarks were given by the Assistant Regional Director for Technical Support Services Division Ms. Mirasol G. Domingo. A light yet very Inspirational message was given to the scholars by Engr. Richard T. Regidor, DOST Scholar batch 2008 and a BSEE graduate of University of Mindanao who placed 4th in the Registered Electrical Engineer Licensure Examination. Certificates of Recognition were also given to the exemplary scholars who became licensed professionals in their own field.

Thereafter, an Intermission Number is given by scholars from the University of Southeastern Philippines and University of the Philippines Mindanao, following the very timely and nationalistic message of Keynote Speaker Ms. Maria Teresa Bien De Guzman, the Deputy Director of the Science Education Institute of DOST. “Let us make the Philippine dragon economy happen.” Ms. De Guzman says, “We hope that you consider this scholarship as a blessing and a challenge from the Filipino people, a proof of trust that we expect to return in responsibility and accountability. As you know, we only request that you serve our country equivalent to the number of years that you have enjoyed the privileges, because after all, your success will be the success of all Filipinos. Be the hope of the Filipino people. Be a part of the Philippine economic big leap forward. Pursue excellence and realize your fullest potentials for your family and for your country.”

Afterwards, the scholars were divided into groups as the team building activities started, fun and laughter filled the atmosphere of the venue as the scholars enjoy participating in “Minute-to-win-it” –themed games where groups compete with each other to finish each game within 1 minute. The event continued in the afternoon with more games and more surprises. The games allowed the scholars to establish their confidence and sense of unity among others, preparing them for the challenges that await them in their respective schools.

The exchanging of gifts followed the games. Celebrating the Christmas season, the scholars happily gave and recieved gifts from their fellow iskos and iskas. The elections was also done, and the new set of officers for SY 2014-15 were announced with DOST Scholar Batch 2010 Omne R. Pelingon II of USEP was elected the new Scholars Association President. The event ended with a blast. Truly it rekindled the friendships built among the scholars and in the same way, it propelled them to practice a general disposition to expect the best in all things, to believe in themselves and their abilities, to become well qualified physically and intellectually, to be able to lead,  and to become an excellent Scholar of the Filipino People.
