Fifty-one (51) food processors and suppliers, including operators of slaughter houses, dressing plants, fish ports, wet markets (meat, fish, and vegetable), school canteens, restaurant/ carenderias, food catering establishments, and water refilling stations participated during the awareness seminar. Among the topics discussed by the resource speakers were the importance of hand washing, food safety hazards, personal hygiene, pest control, preparation of raw materials, and food contact surfaces. An introduction on the Food Safety Act of 2013 (R.A. 10611) which had been widely disseminated for local implementation was also presented during the seminar.

This joint effort of DOST and DTI is expected to bring awareness to the public on the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety standards especially to food manufacturers of Davao Occidental.
