DAVAO CITY– The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) expressed its commitment to pour resources for the establishment of the COVID-19 Testing Facility inside the police camp.
In a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing ceremony on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III vowed that the agency will provide financial and technical assistance for the facility located at Camp Sgt. Quintin M Merecido, Buhangin, Davao City.
"DOST XI and its Provincial Offices will provide the necessary financial and technical support that would be needed in the operation and management of this facility particularly in the area of research and development," Sales said.
He added that this initiative is the second COVID-19 testing facility which DOST XI is taking part of to combat spread of COVID-19 pandemic. The other is in partnership with the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro.
According to the MOA signed by Police Regional Office XI (PRO XI) Chief, PBGen. Filmore Escobal, DOST XI RD Sales and the University of the Philippines Mindanao Chancellor Ρrof. Larry Digal, the Molecular Laboratory for COVID-19 Testing shall be used to test suspected COVID 19 positive PNP personnel and their dependents, and authorized civilian patients that would need testing.
It further states that the facility "may also serve as a rapid medical and public health response to the COVID 19 outbreak in Davao Region."
Meanwhile, the UP Mindanao Campus, through its Philippine Genome Center Mindanao headed by Director Prof. Lyre Anni Murao, will facilitate capacity building of facility personnel, assist in the development of a manual on standard of operations and provide consultancy services.
PBGen Escobal emphasized that they need the help of the experts and he thanked the DOST XI and UP Mindanao for responding to the call to help in the capacity building of their personnel. He said the target of inauguration of the testing center is on October 15, 2020.
