The Department of Science and Technology Region XI is the new home of the 20 pieces of framed art prints made by local artist and professor, Teody Boylie “Bong” Perez.
In a turnover ceremony on Wednesday, November 18, Prof. Perez, a faculty of the Department of Humanities of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of UP Mindanao, a Datu Bago awardee (2016) and a National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) 2020 Grantee officially handed over his artworks to the DOST XI represented by Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III.
The artist shared that the donated artworks are part of his 300 art print-collection which is set to be distributed to 12 different institutions. He stressed that the art collection is centered on the theme of depicting the lives of the ordinary people.
Prof. Perez further explained that the NCCA 2020 Competitive Grants Program aims to promote understanding and consideration for the ordinary people as the basis for the expression of artworks, and highlight advocacy for the arts as a vehicle for social awareness, among others.
Meanwhile, DOST Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III expressed his gratitude to Prof. Bong for trusting DOST to be one of the recipients of his artworks.
"Thank you for trusting us and it is our greatest honor and pleasure to receive these art prints as it will help foster creativity and ensure that Science and Arts shall coexist in the corridors of the Department of Science and Technology," Director Sales said.
Dir. Sales added that the donated artworks will be installed in the Regional Office, Provincial Offices all over the Davao Region, and the newly renovated Sentro Mindanaw, which also aims to promote Science, Culture and Arts to a wider audience through interactive exhibits and displays.
