The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST XI) held a two-day Training on Halal Perspective in the Industry on March 3-4, 2021 via Zoom.

A total of 75 participants, composed of personnel from various DOST Food Safety Teams (FST), Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) and technical personnel of DOST Region XI and other DOST Regional Offices joined the event.

The objective of the activity was to equip the participants with knowledge and skills on the Halal Concepts and Principles, Halal Assurance System (Philippine and Malaysian standards), and Halal Management System. The speakers of the event were experts in the Halal industry namely: Prof. Analiza Flores-Malayang, former Commissioner III of National Commission on Muslim Filipinos; Ms. Lourdes S. Montevirgen, Mr. Norli L. Aidasani and Mr. Charles Feb Q. Palla of the Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI).

“This trainers’ training provides capacity-building to DOST-based personnel and affiliate to create a pool of human resource for the Halal Industry,” DOST XI Regional Director and DOST Halal S&T Program Leader, Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III said. He also encouraged the participants to practice what they have learned and that the training will be echoed to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Halal stakeholders.

The training is in line with the Human Resource Development (HRD) under the DOST Halal S&T Program.
