Halal Training for the Food Industry

The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST XI) held a two-day virtual Training on Halal for the Food Industry on April 20-21, 2021.

A total of 119 participants, mostly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the different areas in Davao Region, participated in the said event.

The activity was aimed to equip the participants with knowledge and skills on Halal Concepts and Principles, Halal Assurance System, and Halal Management System. DOST XI Halal S&T Program’s Science Research Specialists, Ms. Christine Esther Flor L. Catoera, Ms. Maria Angelique Anne G. Alapag, Ms. Richell Mae B. Ruyeras, and Ms. Marielle Aimee A. Malinao served as speakers of the training.

DOST XI Regional Director and DOST Halal S&T Program Leader, Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III explained that the initiative is part of the country’s steps to advance its Halal industry development and intensify promotion among exporters.

“The training and development of human capital in the Halal Food industry aim not only to impart knowledge on the market requirements of the Halal sector, but also to produce Halal competent persons who are able to execute the daily operational tasks towards Halal assurance and integrity in the Halal food industry. This two-day activity will be an avenue for the training of the food personnel and managerial staff on Halal,” Dir. Sales said.

Another Halal training will be conducted under the Human Resource Development (HRD) of the DOST Halal S&T Program by July 2021.
