The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) spearheaded the scholarship orientation for new DOST-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) scholarship qualifiers from Davao region before officially signing their contract signifying their acceptance of the terms and conditions stipulated in their scholarship.

For the academic year 2022-2023, 271 students from the different cities and provinces of the Davao region were hailed as new scholars from a total of 10,487 scholarship qualifiers.

DOST XI Scholarship Section held an orientation to inform the scholars and their parents of the contract's provisions before signing, including their duties, responsibilities and benefits as scholars.

DOST XI Regional Director, Dr. Anthony Sales, extended his message of congratulations to the new set of scholars recognizing the hardships they went through in the qualification process.

"I am confident that through the DOST's Scholarship program, the level of support and academic guidance that you, as scholars, will receive and experience in each of the educational institutions that you will be attending will be fulfilling and enriching," Dr. Sales said.

Kristoffe Montelibano, one of the scholarship qualifiers from Davao City who will take  Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, expressed gratitude for the undergraduate scholarship program as this will significantly help him with his education and will somehow ease the financial burden on his mother.

"For future aspiring scholars, please don't miss this (scholarship) opportunity. It will help your education and will assist you in becoming future successful professionals," he added.

The undergraduate scholarship of DOST-SEI is categorized into two: the RA 7687 Scholarship which is for students from economically disadvantaged families, and the Merit Scholarship for students with high aptitude in Science and Mathematics who are willing to pursue careers in the fields of S&T.

Qualifiers who will avail of the S&T scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of ₱7,000, a tuition fee subsidy of up to ₱40,000 per academic year for those in private institutions, learning materials, and connectivity allowance, one-time MS/PE clothing allowance, one economy-class roundtrip fare per academic year for those who will study outside their home province, group health and accident insurance, and thesis and graduation allowance.

DOST-SEI continuously offers the S&T scholarship to encourage Filipino students to pursue scientific careers and sustain the Philippines' human resources capacity in S&T required to produce demand-driven outputs that meet global standards.
