The farmers test the chocolate processing equipment
The Department of Science and Technology Region XI, through the Provincial Science and Technology Office of Davao de Oro aided farmers from Barangay Andap, New Bataan, Davao de Oro, with various chocolate production processing equipment to help with their livelihood.
The members of the Camarin Manlobong Taytayan Onion Farmers Association (CAMATOFA), the primary beneficiaries of the equipment, are now venturing into Cacao Processing after the devastation of Typhoon Pablo.
Various chocolate processing equipment such as Conching Machine, Grinder, Mixer, Digital Weighing Scale, Stainless Table, Chiller, and Upright Freezer were turned over to the organization after the initial deployment of post-harvest processing equipment and supplies for upcycling cacao fruits given in 2015.
The farmers also received Safety and Operation Training to help them use the provided equipment effectively and efficiently.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Office XI personnel were also present during the turnover and expressed commitment to support the organization through marketing and promotions of their products.
CAMATOFA President, Mrs. Gloria Camporedondo, thanked DOST XI for the endless support to the community farmers through the provision of various equipment that help them economically recover.
The intervention provided served as an entry point for the economic and livelihood development and technology transfer under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology program of DOST.
