DOST XI PROMOTES GENDER SENSITIVITY AND USE OF GENDER FAIR LANGUAGE DURING 2021 RSTW DAVAO
With the aim of enjoining solidarity towards equal representation and maintaining the reputation of being a non-discriminatory agency, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) successfully conducted a two-day Gender Sensitivity and Use of Gender Fair Language Webinar last November 8 -9, 2021 with over 150 attendees from within and outside Davao region.
The webinar featured engaging discussions about the common gender issues such as gender biases, discrimination amongst women, socialization and stereotyping with resource speakers Mr. Aivan Lloyd Calonia, Project Assistant II of DOST VIII and part of DOST-wide Speaker’s Bureau for GAD, and Ms. Maria Fe B. Singson, Supervising Science Research Specialist and DOST-wide Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinator.
LGU of Mati bags Davao Region’s best CEST Project Implementor Award for 2021
The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Mati, Davao Oriental was hailed as the best regional implementor of the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program in Davao Region for 2021 during the virtual awarding ceremony last November 5, 2021 in celebration of the Regional Science and Technology Week.
In 2018, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) through the Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao Oriental (PSTC-DO) implemented the project entitled, “Empowering Coastal Communities through Science and Technology Interventions in Davao Oriental” in the coastal stretch of Brgy. Lawigan in the City of Mati reaching to the far end Brgy. Lavigan. The two municipalities are essentially the co-owners of Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary that was declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project involved over 13 rural barangays.
DOST XI INVITES TEACHERS, STUDENTS TO ATTEND DAVAO’S RESEARCH AGENDA WEBINAR IN 2021 VIRTUAL RSTW
With the goal of strengthening research and development (R&D) in secondary and higher education, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST XI) is calling all teachers, students, and aspiring researchers to attend the webinar entitled “In Focus: Davao’s Research Agenda” on November 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM which will be held virtually in Zoom platform and Facebook Live.
With resource speaker Dr. Rochelle Papasin, Special Science Teacher V and Research Coordinator of the Philippine Science High School, Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS-SMC), this webinar aims to educate public and private senior high school teachers and students, state colleges and universities, as well as private colleges about the research agenda in Davao region in the light of the current pandemic.
“Educators and students are still coping with the proper conduct of research methods and practices in the new normal. It is very crucial to inform them with the trends in R & D, particularly on the research fields, disciplines, topics and how to align in the regional R&D agenda”, said DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III.
East LA. Inc. wins Best SETUP Adoptor Award during 2021 RSTW Davao
DAVAO CITY – As one of the highlights of the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) Celebration 2021, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) awarded the Best Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Adoptor for Davao Region to EAST LA Inc. during a virtual ceremony last November 5, 2021.
EAST LA Inc. bested five (5) other shortlisted SETUP Adoptors in the different provinces of Davao Region with its outstanding demonstration of productivity, resilience, agility, innovativeness, sustainability, and excellence amidst the challenges of the pandemic.
DOST XI kicks off virtual celebration of 2021 Regional S&T Week in Davao Region
The Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) successfully launched the 2021 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) celebration thru a Virtual Program last November 3, 2021 via Zoom platform and live-streamed via Facebook.
With this year’s theme, “Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon”, DOST aims to feature the contributions of science, engineering, technology and innovation (SETI) in the areas of research and development, innovation, and updates from the different sectors in food and agriculture, health, business enterprises, information and communications technology, energy, and other industries.
