Aiming to promote and foster inclusive development across Davao Region, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) organized the conduct of SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ASEAN Heritage Park, Mount Hamiguitan in Davao Oriental on March 2-4, 2021.

SalikLakbay, a research journey, aims to identify and capture grassroots innovations that emanate from grassroots communities. Hence, the SalikLakbay in Mt. Hamiguitan aimed to acquire new knowledge on flora and fauna that thrive in the mountain with their practical uses through the traditional knowledge acquired from the local scientists or grassroots innovators called as Bantay-Gubat. The activity was conducted under the DOST’s Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Program.


The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) conducted the SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure in Brgy. Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur on February 18, 2021.

Through the DOST XI’s Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Program, the said research journey and community engagement was held in another province of Davao Region – this time in a Bagobo-Tagabawa community. The activity aimed to identify grassroots innovations and to assess the needs and opportunities in the community where DOST can provide science and technology interventions to address certain problems at the grassroots.


The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST XI) held a two-day Training on Halal Perspective in the Industry on March 3-4, 2021 via Zoom.

A total of 75 participants, composed of personnel from various DOST Food Safety Teams (FST), Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTCs) and technical personnel of DOST Region XI and other DOST Regional Offices joined the event.

Calling all inventors, innovators and creative researchers!

The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) is now accepting entries for the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE), a nationwide activity conducted in different regions to recognize the indispensability of the Filipino inventors to the Philippine society and national economic development. This serves as the qualifying round for the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) in 2022.

“Teenage pregnancy is unplanned, but not necessarily unwanted, and unplanned pregnancy means no regrets.”

These are some of the findings presented by Dr. Gloria Luz M. Nelson, Professor of Sociology, University of the Philippines Los Baños, from the study of 18 teenagers from nine provinces in seven regions in the Philippines who are pregnant, mothers, or are both pregnant and are mothers at the same time, during the COVID 19 pandemic crisis.
