Department of Science and Technology Sec. Mario Montejo announced recently science and technology (S&T) ambassadors who will champion S&T programs in Davao Region.

The initial batch of science ambassadors include Senator Paulo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, chair of the Senate Committee on Youth; Representative Mario U. Piamonte, senior vice chair of the Committee on Science and Technology of the House of Representatives; Maria Belen Sunga-Acosta and Marissa S. Abella, Davao City councilors; Joey Ayala and Ronulfo “Popong” Landero, both Davao-based singers-songwriters.

 Science Nation Tour - ScienceJam - DOST Secretary Montejo said that the “biggest challenge” being faced by DOST is the way Filipinos appreciate science. A ScienceJam will be conducted as part of the Science Nation Tour to show that science and technology (S&T) are vital components of the government’s effort to hoist the lives of every Juan.

The event will be held at the gymnasium of the University of Southeastern Philippines Obrero Campus, Davao City on March 6, 2015.  The  BOB band, Manila’s hottest new band and DJ Torch, Davao hottest DJ will be featured in the culminating activity of the ”Science Nation Tour .“

A Zumbafest will also ensue on March 7, 2015 at 6:00 o’clock in the morning at the People’s park, Davao City. We call on the youth and all interested individuals to be part of the event. Admission is FREE. See you there!

sntourSecretary Mario G. Montejo of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will be in Davao City on March 6, 2015 for the ”Science Nation Tour “ with the theme “Inspire, Engage and Convert.”

DOST XI will host the first regional leg of the “Science Nation Tour,” – a national roadshow of DOST to promote the agency’s programs, projects and services.

The tour, dubbed as “Agham na Ramdam” (Science that is felt) is a follow up to the department’s “Iba na ang Panahon (INAP): Science for Safer Communities” staged last year in the country’s 17 regions.

The Food Processing Innovation Center – Davao, in pursuit of promoting local research that can help MSMEs in the food industry to improve the quality of their existing products and/or develop new ones; thereby increasing their competitiveness in local and export markets, is now accepting Food Research and Development (R&D) proposals for CY 2015 funding support.

Engr. Rogelio "Roger" Corcino, Provincial Director of PSTC-Davao del Norte passed away today in Davao City. Roger is fondly remembered in DOST Region XI as a very nice person, approachable and kind. A colleague once said Roger is the type of person that one never gets mad at because of his ready smile.

Engr. Corcino retired early this year at the age of 59, leaving DOST XI after 23 years of public service. He is survived by his wife, Engr. Maria Corcino of Davao del Norte State College and daughters Iris, Ingrid and Inbemar.
