Saliklakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure piloted in one of the Barangays in Davao Occidental
The Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI, through its PSTC Davao Occidental successfully conducted its first SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure in Davao Occidental in a Tagakaulo Community in Datu Danwata, Municipality of Malita on May 27, 2021.
A total of 24 participants, composed of stakeholders from academe, Tagakaulo community partners, and government sectors in the province, were able to discuss problems and solutions related to heirloom foods, ethnobotanicals and indigenous crafts, among others. During the engagement, the solutions mappers conducted a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in which the participants gave their insights for the possible interventions to the identified grassroots innovations to address problems in the community.
DOST XI collaborates with ICHARM Japan and HELP Davao Network in training Facilitators and adopting the Davao Online Synthesis System (OSS)- a Water Resilience and Disaster Platform for Davao River
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XI in partnership with Hydrology for Environment, Life and Policy (HELP) Davao Network is implementing a project with International Centre for Water Hazards and Risk Management (I-CHARM), Japan entitled “Science and Technology in Society for Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction Project”. The said project aims to bring Science and Technology into service for society on water-related disaster risk reduction by assuring full functionality of platforms on water and disaster – particularly torrential rainfall, flood, drought, and landslide. One of the major outputs of this project is the development of Davao Online Synthesis System (OSS) as a Platform for Water Resilience and Disasters in the Philippines. The OSS synthesizes hazard, damage, and socio-economic data, knowledge, information, experience, know-how, and technology into the Data Integration and Analysis System (DIAS) and provides relevant stakeholders such as policy makers and disaster managers with capacity for informed decisions.
Becoming Filipino – Kulas is DOST XI GRIND’s Official Ambassador
Travel Vlogger and Influencer, Kyle Douglas “Kulas” Jennermann, was officially recognized on May 14, 2021 as the Program Ambassador of the Department of Science and Technology Region XI’s (DOST XI) Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Program.
Kulas, also popularly known by his YouTube channel name Becoming Filipino, is a Canadian Blogger/Vlogger and Influencer from Comox, British Columbia. He captured the hearts of his fans all over the world, especially Filipinos, with his documentary-style blogs and vlogs featuring the alluring and fascinating places in the Philippines, as well as highlighting the positive experiences and connections he made with the people in the different communities he visited.
DOST XI Grants P500,000 worth of S&T Intervention for SPAMAST’s Innovation Center
DAVAO OCCIDENTAL – Half million worth of S&T intervention was granted by the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) to the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) as part of its implementation of the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Project in the province.
DOST XI, through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao Occidental, officially granted the said amount to support the goal of making coastal communities self-sufficient and food secure through the establishment of the Food Processing Innovation Center (FPIC). The partnership was formalized through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on May 18, 2021.
DOST XI holds SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure in Talaingod, Davao del Norte
The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI)’s Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Program, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program in the Philippines – Accelerator Lab, successfully conducted the SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure held in Sitio Mangga, Barangay Dagohoy, Talaingod, Davao del Norte on May 14, 2021.
“SalikLakbay”, is a combination of the words ‘Saliksik’ (to explore/ research) and ‘Lakbay’ (to journey/go in an adventure). It aims to identify grassroots innovations and solutions and assess the needs and opportunities in the community where DOST can provide science and technology interventions to address certain problems.
