The Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Awards is given by DOST through the Science Education Institute (SEI) to students who brought honor and prestige to our country from various local and international science and mathematics competition. The YES awards medal of distinction signifies a high regard for excellence and competitiveness through the distinguished achievements of young Filipinos all over the country. This year, 11 students were awarded for winning in SEI-recognized international competitions.

DOST XI and HELP Davao Network through the technical and financial support of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) jointly launched the Sustainability Science Project through a Stakeholders’ Consultation, February 3 - 4, 2016 at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City.

Davao City being selected as the pilot site of the multi-stakeholder project dubbed as Demonstration Site on “Enhancing Resilience to Disasters of Urban Water Systems of Mindanao” in the Philippines aims to demonstrate and enhance the resiliency to disaster on urban water systems of the communities in the city.

TARA NA, TELA NA! is a nationwide contest aimed at assisting the local textile industry through the development of tools and equipment that will promote consistency and sustainability of the supply chain.

The Department of Science and Technology XI co-hosted the BIMP-EAGA International Halal Congress with the theme “Integrating HEIs in the Halal Value Chain” on March 1-3, 2016 at the Apo View Hotel, Davao City.  The event is done in partnership with Mindanao Development Authority, University of Southern Mindanao and the Department of Agriculture Regional Offices XI and XII.

Twenty-five certifiers from the Department of Science and Technology XI were deployed for the whole month of March 2016 to conduct the certification program of boards of election inspectors (BEIs) in the May 9 national and local polls.
