Following the success of the Luzon and Visayas leg, the Department of Science and Technology is bringing the third and final installment of this year’s Technology Transfer Day in Davao City. This Mindanao-wide activity aims at promoting the DOST generated and assisted technologies to its intended beneficiaries, stakeholders, and private sectors.

“Nagawa na namin ito sa Manila and Ormoc City, tuwang tuwa kami dahil doon mismo sa site, nagkaroon ng mga deals, may fairness opinion reports, may licensing,” said Usec. Rowena Cristina Guevara in a press conference.

Guevara, who is the current DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development, also mentioned that the technologies that will be presented are the products of the last three years of research and development.

For its first trip to Mindanao, the country’s first and only mobile science learning facility, the Science Explorer Bus, is set to take a road trip to Davao Occidental by February 2017. The Science Explorer Bus is under the program promotions of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). The Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) in Davao Occidental, together with a survey team from the DOST-SEI, conducted an ocular visit last November 24-26, 2016 to prepare the schedule and arrangements for the road trip to the 5 municipalities in the province.

On its 4th year of implementation of the project entitled, “Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST)”, the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) in Davao Occidental continue to provide assistance to its beneficiaries in the municipality of Don Marcelino particularly, Brgy. North Lamidan.

 

To equip the men and women of Brgy.North Lamidan, the PSTC of Davao Occidental conducted a 3-day Bricks Making Training on November 16-18, 2016. Participants of the training include unemployed residents and pensioners of the barangay, barangay officials, and teachers from John Martin Johnson National High School. The training complements the livelihood/enterprise development and education components of the CEST program as implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

GASA Baker’s Best is a Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) cooperator of the Department of Science and Technology Region (DOST) Region XI through its Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) in Davao Occidental since 2015. To help the  enterprise and their personnel to appreciate the current good manufacturing practices the DOST through its provincial office in Davao Occidental in cooperation with the Davao Food Safety Team, Inc. (DFST), conducted an in-house Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Awareness Seminar at GASA Baker’s Best on November 15, 2016 at Sta. Maria, Davao occidental. It was participated in by the firm’s fifteen (15) employees composed of the production supervisors, bakers, packers, delivery peddlers, refreshment supervisor, and the owner, Mrs. Celina Lambino.

Geographically, Davao Occidental is an agricultural province where the primary livelihood of people is farming in the uplands and fishing in the coastal areas. One way of stirring the economic growth of the young province, considering its physical structure and attributes, is through enhancing the skills of human resource and promoting entrepreneurship through trainings.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its provincial office in Davao Occidental was tapped by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to conduct Techno Demo on Smoked Bangus to their target beneficiaries from the fishing sector. Participants of the said training were from Brgys. Udalo, Buhangin and Poblacion, Malita, Davao Occidental.
