On January 15 2015, the Technology Application Promotion Institute (TAPI) of DOST identified the DREAM team as co-organizer of the three-day training-workshop entitled “Southeast Asia Regional Training Programme on Energy Resource Assessment and Mapping” on the latter part of 2015 to be held in Davao City.

Two hundred twenty five (225) High School students bested the 1774 examinees of the 2015 Scholarship Program of the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) held last September 21, 2014 in five (5) test centers in the region. Out of the total number of passers, 179 qualified as scholars under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, scholarships for gifted students who belong to economically disadvantaged families; while 46 passed under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program. Almost all municipalities were covered by the DOST-SEI Scholarship program. There were 21 qualifiers from Davao Oriental, 28 qualifiers from Davao del Sur, 6 qualifiers from Davao Occidental, 52 qualifiers from Davao del Norte, 33 qualifiers from Compostela Valley Province, and 85 qualifiers from Davao City.

March is considered as women’s month as the world celebrates March 8 as International Women’s Day.

It is but fitting that two out of the seven recipients of the science ambassadors named by the Department of Science and Technology were women. They were Maria Belen “Mabel” Sunga-Acosta and Marissa Salvador-Abella.  Both are councilors of Davao City.

Department of Science and Technology Sec. Mario Montejo announced recently science and technology (S&T) ambassadors who will champion S&T programs in Davao Region.

The initial batch of science ambassadors include Senator Paulo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, chair of the Senate Committee on Youth; Representative Mario U. Piamonte, senior vice chair of the Committee on Science and Technology of the House of Representatives; Maria Belen Sunga-Acosta and Marissa S. Abella, Davao City councilors; Joey Ayala and Ronulfo “Popong” Landero, both Davao-based singers-songwriters.

 Science Nation Tour - ScienceJam - DOST Secretary Montejo said that the “biggest challenge” being faced by DOST is the way Filipinos appreciate science. A ScienceJam will be conducted as part of the Science Nation Tour to show that science and technology (S&T) are vital components of the government’s effort to hoist the lives of every Juan.

The event will be held at the gymnasium of the University of Southeastern Philippines Obrero Campus, Davao City on March 6, 2015.  The  BOB band, Manila’s hottest new band and DJ Torch, Davao hottest DJ will be featured in the culminating activity of the ”Science Nation Tour .“

A Zumbafest will also ensue on March 7, 2015 at 6:00 o’clock in the morning at the People’s park, Davao City. We call on the youth and all interested individuals to be part of the event. Admission is FREE. See you there!
