Bringing Science and Technology closer to the people, the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) levels up education in the new normal. In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) – Schools Division of Davao del Sur, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI), through its Provincial Science & Technology Center in Davao del Sur (PSTC DS), hosted the Virtual Orientation and Training on the Use of STARBOOKS on August 17, 2021 via online platform.

The said activity was participated by School Heads, School ICT Coordinators and Teachers of the public school beneficiaries of DOST’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Project from the Municipality of Sulop and Barangay Saliducon in the Municipality of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.


As much as Php50,000, trophies, and certificates, are up for grabs for Dabawenyo inventors, designers, researchers, and students who will be participating this year’s Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE) in Davao Region.

RICE is a biennial nationwide activity, organized by the Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) along with the DOST Regional Offices, conducted in different regions to recognize the indispensability of the Filipino inventors to the Philippine society and national economic development.

Poultry Tetra Consulting Company

A system that will closely monitor potential outbreaks of infectious diseases for poultry production will be developed through the collaborative R&D project between the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) and Tetra Consulting Company, with funding support from Department of Science and Technology (DOST) amounting to Php 4,978,427.44 under the Collaborative Research and Development to Leverage Philippine Economy (CRADLE) Program.

The research project entitled” ChicIoT: An IoT-Based Smart Poultry Building Environment and Growth and Health Status Monitoring and Modelling” is a system that collects data through Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless sensor network covering thermal, environmental, video and gas level data. IoT refers to a system of interrelated, internet-connected objects or devices that can collect and transfer data over a wireless network without human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.


Mr. Michael A. Casas, Special Science Teacher IV and Research Adviser from the Philippine Science High School Southern Mindanao Campus (PSHS SMC), won 2nd Place in the nationwide 3-Minute Pitch to Policymakers Competition conducted by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) on August 10, 2021.

Nine representatives from different regional health and development consortia participated in the event via Zoom and Facebook Live which is in line with the virtual celebration of the 14th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) week last August 9-13, 2021.

DAVAO CITY – In response to the impact of COVID-19, an area-wide webinar composed of livelihood technology trainings was conducted on August 24, 2021 through the Zoom Platform.

With the theme, “Livelihood Initiatives for the Affected Workers and Establishments this time of Pandemic’’, the activity was held through the inter-agency collaboration and was participated by several private sectors in Davao Region. It was aimed to support companies and employees affected by the pandemic to provide avenue of potential source of income.
