The Department of Science and Technology Region Office XI (DOST XI) led the coordination of Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies in Region XI (ARENA XI) Resbakuna 2nd dose COVID 19 vaccination drive for government employees in Davao City on July 29-30 and August 4-6, 2021 at the University of the Philippines Mindanao (UP Mindanao), University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP)-Obrero Campus, and Police Regional Office XI in Camp Quintin Merecido vaccination sites.

This initiative was led by ARENA XI President and DOST XI Regional Director, Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III, in partnership with the Office of the City Administrator, Davao City Health Office, Department of Health Region XI (DOH XI), UP Mindanao, USEP-Obrero, and PRO XI, together with the volunteers from different government agencies and medical professionals.

Davao Oriental- The Department of Science and Technology Region 11 ( DOST XI) through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao Oriental together with DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) hosted an Online Technological Forum on Tubig Talino, Complementary Food Products, and E-Nutribun under the Community Empowerment  Through Science and Technology (CEST) Project last June 11, 2021, via Zoom.

The forum aimed to introduce the different DOST- FNRI developed food products in Davao Oriental. These nutritionally enhanced food products were developed to combat malnutrition problems among children in identified CEST communities nationwide. Tubig Talino is a purified or ordinary potable water mixed with Water Plus I2 that adds iodine for intake resulting in better health. Complementary foods are a mixture of rice, mung bean, and sesame seeds that can be used as an alternative for breastfeeding or readily made cereals in the market. Lastly, the Enhanced Nutribun or E-Nutribun is a 160-gram bun rich in iron and vitamin A easy for children to consume and give them their dietary needs.

Thirteen (13) college students from Davao Region qualified for the 2020 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) Program, as announced by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) on August 1, 2021.

Out of the total 328 applicants in Davao region, the following students have made it to the JLSS program:

In order to capacitate and encourage budding researchers in Mindanao in generating research that will address Research and Development (R&D) needs in the region, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region X, XI, and Caraga, in partnership with National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), facilitated the Proposal Writeshop Conference of NSTEP Mindanao I on August 5, 2021 via Zoom.

Over 190 participants virtually attended the conference with speakers from the academe, DOST XI personnel, and presenters from different universities and colleges. The event aims to promote basic research aligned in the National Research Integrated Agenda (NIBRA) and expand linkages between Researchers, Scientists, and Engineers (RSEs) across the regions. This initiative will also encourage Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to provide incentives to local experts especially those budding researchers who can upgrade their research outputs in terms of publications and other forms of knowledge generation and utilization.

DAVAO DEL NORTE – The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST Region XI) through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao del Norte (PSTC DN) and in partnership with the National Irrigation Administration - Davao del Norte Irrigation Management Office (NIA DDN IMO) conducted the orientation on DOST – FNRI Developed Iron-Fortified Rice (iRice) technology last August 5, 2021 at the PCU Building, Tagum City Davao del Norte.
