The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST XI) recognized 13 employees for developing and implementing excellent innovations for Calendar Year 2020.

In a virtual awarding ceremony held on March 25, 2021, the top three innovations from each of the four divisions namely, Finance and Administrative Services Division (FASD), Technical Support Services Division (TSSD), and Technical Services Division (TSD), Office of the Regional Director (ORD) & R&D for Development and Innovation Division (ReDID) were recognized as Assistant Regional Director's (ARDs) List. Of the winners, three were hailed for having the Overall Best Innovations or the Regional Director’s (RD's/Tony Awards) List.

The innovations were judged by the DOST XI Regional Director and Assistant Regional Directors (ARDs) based on clarity, usability, stability, scalability, stickiness, and integration.

The Department of Science and Technology XI, together with the Davao City community of innovators, inventors, startups and technopreneurs, welcomes the approval of the landmark ordinance establishing Davao City Inventions and Innovations Center (DCIIC) during the 14th Regular Session of the 19th City Council of Davao on April 13, 2021.

Authored by Councilor Pilar Braga, Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Art and Culture, the said ordinance seeks to provide a venue where Davao City-based inventors, innovators and startups can access goods, services, and capital so that their inventions and innovations can be fully developed, promoted and funded.

Promotion Caravan

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Offices X, XI and XIII in partnership with the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) conducted the NRCP Science and Technology Expert’s Pool (NSTEP) Mindanao Cluster I – Membership Promotion Caravan on March 9, 2021, via Zoom platform.


Aiming to promote and foster inclusive development across Davao Region, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) organized the conduct of SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ASEAN Heritage Park, Mount Hamiguitan in Davao Oriental on March 2-4, 2021.

SalikLakbay, a research journey, aims to identify and capture grassroots innovations that emanate from grassroots communities. Hence, the SalikLakbay in Mt. Hamiguitan aimed to acquire new knowledge on flora and fauna that thrive in the mountain with their practical uses through the traditional knowledge acquired from the local scientists or grassroots innovators called as Bantay-Gubat. The activity was conducted under the DOST’s Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Program.


The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) conducted the SalikLakbay Solutions Mapping Adventure in Brgy. Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur on February 18, 2021.

Through the DOST XI’s Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Program, the said research journey and community engagement was held in another province of Davao Region – this time in a Bagobo-Tagabawa community. The activity aimed to identify grassroots innovations and to assess the needs and opportunities in the community where DOST can provide science and technology interventions to address certain problems at the grassroots.
