PIA XI features DOST XI S&T Programs during Pre-SONA Virtual Presser
In preparation for President Rodrigo Duterte’s final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday afternoon, July 26, 2021, the Philippine Information Agency XI (PIA Davao) featured the major programs of the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) during the Pre-SONA Virtual Presser on July 23, 2021.
DOST XI Regional Director, Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III discussed the different science and technology programs and accomplishments under the Duterte Administration during the 1st Semester of 2021. Dr. Sales highlighted the following the programs: (1) Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP); (2) Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST); (3) Field Testing of Integrated Gold-Copper Mineral Processing Pilot Plant in the Regions, or known as the Better Mine Project; (4) Halal Verification Laboratory (HVL); (5) Complementary Food; (6) Food Processing Innovation Center (FPIC); (7) Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) and SalikLakbay; and (8) Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies in Region XI (ARENA XI) Resbakuna Program.
Davao del Sur students develop an Automotive Multifunction Tester and Supply prototype thru DOST DATBED Project
DAVAO DEL SUR – Students from the University of Mindanao- Digos College (UMDC) pursued a technological innovation project for vehicle troubleshooting and repair that was supported by the Department of Science and Technology thru the DOST-Academe Technology-Based Enterprise Development (DATBED) project.
Four students from UMDC, namely: Kevin Bryx B. Frande - Bachelor of Technical – Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd); Gabriel Nixon A. Dela Cerna - BS Computer Engineering; Vencenth Dave B. Anical - BSBA in Financial Management; and Raymund Dowaso – BTVTED, received a funding assistance amounting to Php 53,230.00 for this project.
DOST XI promotes Science for Change Program (S4CP) and National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Membership in Davao del Norte
DAVAO DEL NORTE – The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. XI successfully conducted the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Membership Forum and Science for Change Program (S4CP) Promotion Caravan in Davao del Norte last August 3, 2021.
Through the Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao del Norte, the event virtually gathered a total of 132 participants with almost half coming from the varius State Universities and Colleges, Higher Education Institutes, and DepEd Divisions in Davao del Norte. Other participants include researchers and planners from the government (40%), various industries (12%), civil society and the media partners. The caravan aimed to inform research partners in Davao del Norte on the NRCP membership application, its qualifications and requirement as well as to encourage stakeholders to participate in the call for proposals under the S4CP.
Digihub-FabLab Davao co-facilitates training on 3D Printing for Surgical Planning
As part of its commitment in providing tools and resources to deliver creative and innovative solutions, the Digital Design and Prototyping Hub-Davao Fabrication Laboratory Davao (DigiHub FabLab Davao) co-facilitated the training program in additive manufacturing for Head and Neck Surgery spearheaded by FAB LAB Mindanao – Iligan City in partnership with Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Manufacturing Center (DOST-AMCen) and CAF Labs – Zamboanga City. With Puzzlebox 3D Printer Philippines as their trainer, this three-session training started last July 17, followed by a second session on July 24, and ended on July 31, 2021.
Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, for surgical planning is part of the month-long training program under FAB Health 2021 which aims to introduce 3D Printing in the healthcare industry to be utilized by medical professionals. This year’s installation of FAB Health intends to train head and neck surgeons in Mindanao on the transformation of DICOM files to STL files using 3D Slicer/OsiriX, editing of the 3D models using Meshmixer, 3D file preparation using Cura and hands-on operations of Ultimaker 3D printers.
DOST XI develops "DOSText" for efficient notification of 2nd Dose COVID 19 Vaccination Rollout
The Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) developed DOSText application in sending notifications for government employees who are scheduled for their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine during vaccination rollout lead by the Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies in Region XI (ARENA XI) which started on July 29, 2021.
The DOSText App is a messaging platform that is capable of delivering bulk Short Message Service (SMS) solutions to virtually any CDMA/GSM mobile handset across the globe. Currently used by ARENA XI Cluster Vaccination Team, DOSText helps DOST XI in implementing bulk SMS messaging services aimed to increase and optimize public services through mobile media.
